As we told you a couple of days ago, former world drift champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. has unveiled his vision of the Ford Mustang. The RTR and RTR-C Gittin Mustangs are more an appearance package than a performance tune, the RTR follows a design by Gittin with the help of Caleb Clark and Classic Design Concepts, and was introduced at SEMA this week. On Tuesday, a few more details became available.

Formula Drift champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. is moving into the specialty car market. And for the man best known for smoking the Falkens on his 2010 Mustang GT, the choice of auto is obvious, it is a Mustang.

The Ford performance stable was given a big nod Wednesday when venerable Popular Mechanics magazine handed out its 2010 Automotive Excellence Awards, taking top honors in more categories than any other automaker in the history of the awards. And, of course, the Mustang stood on top of the all-important Performance category.

Ford could not have picked a better time to introduce its Nascar bound Mustang: the ponies cannot stop winning in 2009, with two series already wrapped up and a shot at the podium in NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Funny Car Series, SCCA Speed World Challenge GT Series, and Formula Drift Professional Drifting.
